In our six Pre-Primary School classes, children complete tasks in the broad areas of Languages and Mathematics at developmentally appropriate levels. They also participate in non-academic subjects such as Physical Education, Art, Music, Religious Education & Technology.
Three and four year olds learn as they draw with big chubby crayons, as they build chunky puzzles or play at the sensopathic tables having fun in the mud or the mealie meal.
Empathetic, experienced and well qualified teachers plan lessons which provide the children with opportunities to develop their strengths to their full potential and give a solid grounding in the core areas necessary for the next step of school life. St Columba’s Pre-Primary School emits the sounds of happy learning, whether it is in the classrooms, the music room, the dolly house or on the jungle gyms. Learning takes place in many places and in many different ways.
Six year olds learn as they listen to a classical music piece and join in with their percussion band, as they use counting apparatus to consolidate numbers values, or as they swing along the monkey bars with gusto. Four and five year olds learn as they role-play in the dolly or fantasy hairdressing corners, as they build a marble run, as they create a collage or cut out a picture.
